Tour de France Femmes 2026: Bra Padding Scrutiny

Officials at the Tour de France Femmes Avec Zwift are checking riders’ clothing to prevent attempts at aerodynamic gains.

Dutch media reports raised concerns that some riders had used bra padding as a fairing, potentially adding one second per kilometre. The race organiser ASO issued a statement, citing article 1.3.032 of Jornal UCI regulations, and warned that any non‑essential elements—such as helmets, glasses, shoes, or in‑race communication devices—could modify a rider’s morphology.

Riders must complete final checks, including bikes and outfits, no later than 10 minutes before their start time. Failure to comply could result in disqualification and a fine of nearly £200.

The practice has been observed before, notably at the Paris 2024 Olympics. ASO emphasised that other items could be inserted into a skinsuit around the chest area to smooth airflow, and that strict enforcement will be applied to preserve fair competition.
