Scarlets managing director Jon Daniels has dismissed the prospect of a merger with the Ospreys, emphasizing his club's desire to continue as one of four Welsh rugby regions. Daniels is calling for greater transparency from the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) regarding the decision-making process for reducing the number of teams.

"From a club perspective, we feel that the decision, and the justification, for moving from four to three needs more work," Daniels stated. He highlighted that crucial data used by the WRU has not been shared, and he believes these decisions will have a significant, long-lasting impact on communities in west Wales, necessitating a public airing.

Daniels argues that Welsh rugby should be capable of supporting four teams, similar to Ireland and other nations. He insists that if evidence suggests otherwise, a transparent discussion is needed on how to reduce teams, questioning why any reduction should be isolated to the west. He stressed the importance of Scarlets maintaining focus on their on-field performance amidst the uncertainty, urging unity among players, supporters, and staff to fight for their future.
