George Russell snapped Kimi Antonelli’s run in Barcelona, posting a 1m14.679 lap to claim pole for the 2026 Grand Prix. He edged Lewis Hamilton by 0.064 seconds, while Antonelli settled third, three‑tenths off his Mercedes teammate. The result also marks his third pole of the season, tightening the midfield race.

Red flag in Q3 came when Charles Leclerc lost control at Turn 4, crashing into the wall and ending his session. The stoppage left only two timed laps, with Oscar Piastri (1m15.176) and Max Verstappen (1m15.328) topping the board before Russell’s provisional pole. Lando Norris secured the second row for McLaren with a 1m15.001 lap, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar completed the third row.

Russell’s pole narrows the gap to championship leader Max Verstappen, putting Mercedes back in contention as they chase a season‑long duel with Red Bull. Hamilton’s second‑place start reinforces his challenge, but Leclerc’s crash consigns Ferrari to P10, jeopardising their points haul. The grid reshuffle intensifies the battle for podiums as Barcelona’s race approaches.
