Former Wales captain Aaron Ramsey is trading his football boots for running shoes as he prepares to tackle the London Marathon just weeks after announcing his retirement. The 35-year-old midfielder, who hasn't played professionally since leaving Mexican side Pumas in January, is dedicating the race to supporting It's Never You, a charity close to his heart following the loss of his friend's young son.

Ramsey's marathon effort honors Hugh, the six-year-old son of his friends Ceri and Frances Menai-Davis who died from rare cancer. The Wales legend has already raised more than £25,000 for the cause. Ceri will run carrying Hugh's shoes around his neck while wearing the names of 500 seriously ill children on his back, creating a powerful tribute to his son's memory.

While his playing career ended without a fairytale World Cup appearance, Ramsey looks toward coaching with enthusiasm. Having already managed Cardiff City for three games and worked with Wales head coach Craig Bellamy's staff, the midfielder aims to continue his impact on the sport from the sidelines.
