Norway Protests Russian Swimmers at World Aquatics

Norway has joined Poland in protesting the return of Russian and Belarusian swimmers to international competition. NSF president Cato Bratbakk stated the Norwegian Swimming Federation will boycott championships while athletes from these countries compete under their national flags and anthems.

This stance comes after World Aquatics reversed its ban on Russian and Belarusian competitors, following the International Paralympic Committee's decision to admit them at the Milan-Cortina Games. Norway has never hosted the World Aquatics Championships and last co-hosted the European Aquatics Championships in 1985.

The Nordic nation plans to meet with regional colleagues next week to build opposition against the governing body's controversial decision. The move highlights growing tensions between sports organizations and nations opposing Russia's participation in international events following the Ukraine invasion.
