England missed out on a series victory as New Zealand won a rain-affected third ODI in Cardiff by 17 runs via DLS, leveling the series at 1-1. Alice Capsey top-scored with 45 as England reached 181-7 in a reduced 33-over innings after rain stopped play for two-and-a-half hours at Sophia Gardens.

Lauren Bell's 3-29 put New Zealand on the back foot when Suzie Bates, Melie Kerr and Georgia Plimmer all fell lbw. But the White Ferns rallied through a 57-run partnership between Maddy Green and Brooke Halliday, reaching 141-4 before rain stopped play for a second time, with the DLS-adjusted target of 184 beyond their reach.

The result means England will take a 1-1 series lead into the three-match T20 international series starting in Derby on May 20. Suzie Bates played her 184th and final ODI for New Zealand, with captain Melie Kerr expressing delight at winning against a quality England side. England have not won the T20 World Cup since 2009 while New Zealand are the reigning champions.
