Leinster's O'Brien injury scare ahead of Champions Cup final

Tommy O'Brien, Leinster's 27-year-old Ireland international wing, is an injury doubt ahead of Saturday's Investec Champions Cup final against Bordeaux-Begles in Bilbao. O'Brien withdrew from the matchday squad after the 68-14 United Rugby Championship win over Ospreys, having sustained a knock in training. A fitness decision will come later this week, leaving Leinster's attacking options uncertain.

Brian Deeny, Joshua Kenny, and Paddy McCarthy face similar late assessments, while centre Hugh Cooney is ruled out for the rest of the season after an Ospreys injury. Leinster are chasing a fifth European title, eight years after their 2018 triumph, but have lost four finals since then, including three straight.

Leinster's four consecutive European final defeats since 2018 — to Saracens, La Rochelle twice, and Toulouse — make O'Brien's potential absence even more damaging against the defending champions Bordeaux-Begles.
