Marta Kostyuk defeated Elina Svitolina 6-3 2-6 6-2 in a historic French Open quarter-final, becoming the first Ukrainian woman in the Open era to reach the singles semi-finals at Roland Garros. The emotional victory came just hours after a missile attack killed at least 18 people across Ukraine, including in Kyiv.

Kostyuk dedicated the win to her homeland during her on-court speech, breaking down in tears as the crowd gave her a standing ovation. She praised Svitolina as 'a legend of Ukrainian tennis' while acknowledging the significance of their all-Ukrainian clash - the first major quarter-final between two Ukrainian women.

The 23-year-old faces Russian Mirra Andreeva next, continuing her stance against shaking hands with players from Russia and Belarus. Kostyuk has been vocal about her criticism of Russian players who haven't denounced the war, saying they must live with their silence.

Kostyuk enters the semi-final on a 17-match clay court winning streak this season. Her last-four appearance ends a 25-year gap since Andrei Medvedev reached the French Open semi-finals in 1999.
