Kiplimo Shatters Half-Marathon Record in Lisbon

Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo reclaimed the world half-marathon record with a stunning performance in Lisbon on Sunday. The 25-year-old Olympic bronze medalist clocked 57 minutes and 20 seconds, breaking the previous mark by 10 seconds. This achievement comes after Kiplimo's earlier world record of 57:31 on the same Lisbon course in 2021.

Kiplimo's journey to this record has been marked by both triumph and controversy. His 56:42 run in Barcelona last year wasn't officially recognized due to pacing violations. The three-time world cross-country champion demonstrated remarkable resilience, saying he believed the record was possible after the first 10km and pushed hard in the final stretch.

The race unfolded with Kiplimo covering the first 5km in 13:28 and reaching 10km in 27:00. He maintained his pace through 15km before accelerating in the final kilometers. Kenya's Nicholas Kipkorir finished second in 58:08, with Gilbert Kiprotich third in 58:59, both well behind the record-breaking pace set by Kiplimo.
