The GAA Social returns for an in-depth interview with Mayo All-Ireland winner and Footballer of the Year nominee Jack Carney. Carney recounts the historic achievement of carrying Sam Maguire to Achill Island, his family's deep roots there, and the cultural significance of the moment. He describes the emotional journey with teammates Donnacha Mc Hugh and Diarmuid O'Connor, highlighting the island's vibrant summer atmosphere and his family's GAA legacy.
Carney reflects on his inter-county trajectory, from his 2021 debut to becoming a key player under Andy Moran's leadership. He details his development as a two-point marksman and his crucial contributions during Mayo's All-Ireland final victory over Kerry, which ended a 75-year wait. The nominee acknowledges feeling like an imposter alongside Ryan O'Donoghue and David Clifford but expresses pride in being the first Kilmeena player nominated for an All-Star.
