Ireland's Ben Lynch finished eighth in the men's freestyle skiing halfpipe final at the Winter Olympics, becoming the first Irish skier to reach an Olympic final. The 23-year-old from Dublin scored 75.00 in his final run, initially placing seventh before dropping to eighth when Canada's Brendan Mackay claimed bronze.

Lynch's journey to the final was historic in itself, as he qualified earlier in the day with a 75.75 score in his second run. Despite struggles in his first two runs, scoring only 39.75 and 44.25, Lynch delivered his best performance when it mattered most. His achievement is particularly impressive considering his previous best World Cup result was 16th place.

The Dublin native celebrated his eighth-place finish as particularly meaningful, noting that eight is his lucky number - matching his birthday on September 8 and the eight stitches he once received above his eyebrow. Lynch's performance at the Winter Olympics represents a significant milestone for Irish winter sports, demonstrating the country's growing presence in skiing disciplines traditionally dominated by nations with more established winter sports programs.
