Ireland's Furlong Dismisses Lions Tour Excuse for Poor Form

Ireland prop Tadhg Furlong has rejected claims that the British and Irish Lions tour is responsible for players' recent dip in form. The 33-year-old, who earned his 83rd cap against Italy, believes any struggles stem more from mindset than physical fatigue.

While 18 Irish players participated in Andy Farrell's Lions squad, Furlong argues the shorter pre-season offsets the extra games played. He suggests some players may overestimate their abilities after the prestigious tour, leading to complacency. "It puts extra strain on your body... but does it have a hangover? I'm not sure," Furlong stated.

The veteran prop is now focused on Ireland's Six Nations clash against England at Twickenham, where he expects to face Lions teammate Ellis Genge. Despite Ireland's unconvincing win over Italy and opening defeat to France, Furlong remains optimistic about the team's trajectory. With several injuries forcing new faces into the squad, he sees promise in the emerging talent and believes the championship will reveal where the team truly stands.
