Ireland have advanced to the Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier Super Six stage despite a nine-run defeat to Bangladesh on Saturday. Bangladesh posted 153-7, with Sharmin Akhter scoring 52. Irish captain Gaby Lewis top-scored with a brilliant 73* off 58 balls, but her side finished on 144-4, falling short in Kathmandu.

The loss, however, was rendered irrelevant as results from other Group A matches confirmed Ireland's progression. The team had already secured crucial wins over Papua New Guinea and the USA in their opening two fixtures, building a strong points foundation. Bangladesh, winning all four of their group matches, advance as undefeated group champions.

Lewis's knock, featuring ten boundaries, was central to Ireland's reply after they had reached 71-1. Opener Amy Hunter, making her 100th appearance, retired hurt on 25 but returned to finish 35*. For Bangladesh, Shoma Akter's 2-17 was the standout bowling performance. The top four in the upcoming Super Six will qualify for the main World Cup tournament.
