Cricket Ireland has implemented "appropriate" security measures for the upcoming five-match ODI series against Afghanistan, anticipating potential protests. The governing body has collaborated with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) to ensure the series proceeds without incident.

The decision to host has drawn criticism due to the severe restrictions on women's rights under Taliban rule in Afghanistan. The first two ODIs are scheduled for Bready on August 2nd and 4th, with the remaining three at Stormont on August 10th, 12th, and 15th.

Cricket Ireland stated that "all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safety and security of players, supporters, officials and staff." The PSNI confirmed an "appropriate and proportionate policing plan" will be in place to manage peaceful assembly while upholding the rights of others and preventing criminal offenses.

Cricket Ireland CEO Sarah Keane acknowledged "moral discomfort" regarding the series, noting that female participation in sports is effectively banned in Afghanistan. Amnesty International's Felix Jakens urged organizers and participants to speak out for Afghan women and prevent the series from being used for Taliban propaganda.
