Amy Hunt retained her British 100 m crown on day one of the UK Athletics Championships in Birmingham, clocking 11.01 seconds, the second‑fastest of her career. European champion Dina Asher‑Smith edged ahead at the start but Hunt surged to win at Alexander Stadium, leaving Asher‑Smith in 11.13 and Mabel Akande third in 11.18. Hunt called the meet a “dry run” for the European Championships in August.

Romell Glave captured the men’s 100 m title, breaking the 10‑second barrier legally for the first time with 9.98 seconds. A swift start saw Zharnel Hughes chase, but Glave’s finish left Hughes in 10.01 and Louie Hinchliffe third in 10.03. Glave had run a wind‑assisted 9.88 in Italy a month earlier, and he said running with freedom makes him dangerous.

Keely Hodgkinson used the 400 m to sharpen her 800 m speed, posting 51.62 to reach Sunday’s final, while 2024 Olympic silver‑medallist Matthew Hudson‑Smith qualified fastest in the men’s 400 m with 45.24. Joel Clarke‑Khan equalled his personal best to clear 2.27 m in the high jump. Marcia Sey set a championship record of 12.65 in the 100 m hurdles and Lawrence Okoye threw a record‑breaking 68.81 m discus.
