Charley Hull sits in a tie for third place after the opening round of the Evian Championship, carding a five-under-par 66. Despite a slow start, Hull recovered with five birdies and picked up two shots on the 18th hole. Her opening round score matches her joint-lowest in a major championship.

Japan's Aki Iwai leads at eight-under, holding a two-shot advantage over France's Perrine Delacour. Hull is grouped with three other players at five-under, while compatriots Lottie Woad and Cara Gainer are a shot further back at four-under. World number one Nelly Korda struggled, shooting a three-over 74 and is tied for 102nd place.

Hull, who withdrew last year due to illness, appears healthy and comfortable in the sweltering French conditions, noting the heat aids her recovery from injuries. She is seeking her first major title, having finished second in three LPGA events this season, including the US Open. Woad, who nearly won last year as an amateur, also posted a 66, while Cara Gainer shot a 67.
