Welsh cyclist Emma Finucane, a 23-year-old Olympic champion, approaches the Commonwealth Games with a mindset of having "nothing to prove," despite her ambition to secure an elusive gold medal in Glasgow.

Finucane, who earned two bronze medals at the Birmingham Games four years ago, has since amassed 16 medals across Olympic, World, and European Championships. She views the Birmingham 2022 Games as a pivotal "springboard" for her career, stating, "I would not be where I am today without the Commonwealth Games." She explained that her previous experience at 19 was overwhelming, but now, as a more established rider, she feels ready to "show what I can do on the track."

Her partner, cyclist Matt Richardson, who represents England, also offers support, with Finucane noting their shared competitive spirit and his understanding of the pressures of elite sport. Although Richardson is now out of the Games due to injury, Finucane aims to enhance her legacy in Glasgow, driven by the desire to stand on the top step of the podium for the first time at the Commonwealth Games, alongside her Olympic and World Championship titles.
