Eberechi Eze Arsenal minutes struggle explained

Arsenal's £67m summer signing Eberechi Eze has managed only 23 minutes across the last six Premier League matches. The England international, who scored a memorable hat-trick against Tottenham in November, has become a peripheral figure despite his creative flair and shooting ability.

The primary reason is Martin Odegaard's return from injury. The Arsenal captain has started eight of the last ten league games, occupying the same creative midfield role Eze thrives in. Starting both would require dropping Declan Rice or Martin Zubimendi, a non-starter given their defensive importance.

Eze's other route on the left wing is blocked by Leandro Trossard's superb form. Manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged the challenge but insists Eze can play multiple positions. With Arsenal leading the Premier League and advancing in all competitions, Eze's lack of league starts is becoming a notable subplot.
