Ireland's Eddie Dunbar won stage 19 of the Vuelta a Espana as Spain's Enric Mas maintained his overall lead with two stages remaining.

Friday's 210.8km hilly stage from Velez-Malaga to Penas Blancas saw Dunbar, 30, catch and pass Santiago Buitrago 300 metres from the finish. Both were in a four-man breakaway, and the Colombian attacked with two kilometres to go. The Pinarello-Q36.5 rider timed his counter-attack perfectly to win by 14 seconds, with British team-mate Thomas Gloag third.

Primoz Roglic closed the gap on Mas by 33 seconds in Thursday's time trial, but the Movistar rider held on despite attacks from Roglic and Richard Carapaz on the 18km climb. Britain's Oscar Onley retained fifth overall and the white jersey.

Mas, a three-time Vuelta runner-up, leads by **1:37** before Saturday's 186.8km mountain stage from La Calahorra to Collado del Alguacil. The **31-year-old** hopes to seal his first Grand Tour title when the race ends Sunday in Granada.
