Australia have named Sophie Molineux captain for the T20 World Cup in England. The 28-year-old all-rounder passed fitness tests to lead a 15-strong squad with vice-captains Ash Gardner and Tahlia McGrath. As six-time champions, Australia aim to regain the title after their 2024 semi-final exit. Molineux, appointed in January following Alyssa Healy's retirement, has overcome a career blighted by injury.

Fast bowler Lucy Hamilton earns her first international tournament selection, while Annabel Sutherland and Grace Harris return after being rested and dropped respectively. Molineux injured her back before the Caribbean tour, where she played exclusively as a batter. Selector Shawn Flegler confirmed Molineux wouldn't have been considered for a non-bowling role at the World Cup, with Darcie Brown missing out due to conditions.

Australia will play warm-up matches against South Africa, England and the West Indies before opening their tournament against South Africa on June 13 at Old Trafford. Molineux has built a strong connection with the group during her initial tours as captain, with Australia expecting raw pace to be less effective in English conditions.
