Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring Scott McTominay's contract situation at Napoli, with the Spanish club interested in signing the 29-year-old Scotland midfielder at the end of the season. Manchester United are unlikely to bring him back to Old Trafford, however, as they are targeting younger signings.

Elsewhere, former Kilmarnock winger Danny Armstrong is poised to trigger a new contract with Dinamo Bucharest. Sporting director Cosmin Mihalescu says the club's push for its first title in 20 years owes much to Armstrong's contribution. Celtic, meanwhile, have no plans to revive a move for left-back Marcelo Saracchi, who left Boca Juniors for Houston Dynamo after a loan spell in Glasgow.

The interest of Celtic and Rangers in Fares Ghedjemis appears to have ended after the 24-year-old winger signed a contract extension with Frosinone until 2030. The newly promoted Serie A club had placed an £18m price tag on the Algeria international. Rangers, however, could land Excelsior centre-back Casper Widell for less than £2m in January, as the 23-year-old is out of contract next summer.

Other stories include Bolton centre-half Ben Davies, who is grateful for reaching Champions League, Europa League and cup finals with Rangers. Former Scotland striker Allan Brazil revealed Roma tentatively approached him after he impressed against them while at Ipswich Town. Former Dundee United manager Mixu Paatelainen blamed poor timing for his seven-month spell, while Bozo Mikulic is poised to return to St Johnstone's starting XI for the first time in eight months.
