Ramsey omitted as Wales gear up for World Cup play‑off

Aaron Ramsey has been omitted from Wales' 26‑man roster for this month’s World Cup play‑offs. The 35‑year‑old midfielder has been club‑less since departing Pumas in December and has not featured for the Mexican side since September, leaving him without first‑team football. A string of injuries has kept him out of the national team since September 2024, casting doubt on his World Cup ambitions.

Wales travel to Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday, 26 March, to meet Bosnia‑Herzegovina in the semi‑final. Injuries have forced the exclusion of Tottenham’s Ben Davies, Wrexham striker Kieffer Moore and centre‑back Chris Mepham, who is on loan at West Brom. Replacements include goalkeeper Danny Ward, left‑back Rhys Norrington‑Davies and Rangers forward Rabbi Matondo, while Harry Wilson is poised to wear the captain’s armband.

Ramsey’s omission means his dream of a fourth major tournament grows increasingly remote, even if Wales secure a World Cup berth and join Group B with Canada, Switzerland and Qatar. Without the former Arsenal and Juventus playmaker, Wales will rely on younger talent to fill the creative void. The squad now faces a decisive test against Bosnia‑Herzegovina.
