Premier League, EFL agree funding proposal

Premier League clubs have agreed to a funding proposal to present to the English Football League (EFL), potentially resolving a dispute that has persisted since a 2021 fan-led review.

This agreement follows government warnings in March 2024 that a deal would be imposed if the leagues could not reach consensus. Representatives from the Premier League, EFL, and the new Independent Regulator met to finalize the outline of the proposal.

The EFL acknowledged the Premier League's position and awaits the formal proposal for review by its board and 72 member clubs. The Premier League's initial resistance to increased funding was reportedly due to concerns about subsidizing competing clubs, some of which have owners with greater wealth than certain Premier League counterparts, such as Stoke City.
