A consortium led by former AC Milan and Chelsea striker Alexandre Pato has completed the takeover of Northampton Town. Sports Alpha Capital (SAC) secured a 70% stake in Northampton Town Ventures Limited, leaving the club debt‑free after a pre‑tax loss of nearly £3m in April 2026. Chairman Kelvin Thomas steps down after over a decade, while existing owners retain a 30% shareholding. SAC co‑chairmen Joao Xavier and Tim Chamberlain, along with Pato as a board director, outlined ambitious yet sustainable plans, pledging deeper community engagement and long‑term growth. The deal follows earlier interest in Colchester United and positions the League Two club for renewed development on and off the pitch.

The takeover marks a significant moment for the Cobblers, who finished bottom of League One last season and are currently 22nd in League Two, two points above the relegation zone. New board members include CEO James Whiting and supporters’ rep Tom Cliffe, while Jim Rosenthal and Mike Wailing become associate directors. The consortium’s statement emphasizes pride in the club’s heritage and a commitment to working with fans, the Community Trust, and local stakeholders to realize Northampton’s potential.

Key figures such as Pato, SAC’s Joao Xavier, Tim Chamberlain, and former chairman Thomas highlighted the historic nature of the acquisition, noting the club’s debt‑free status as a rare advantage. The club’s future plans are expected to be detailed further, with the investors looking to spend more time in Northampton and listen to supporter feedback.
