Manchester City youngster Nico O'Reilly has emerged as a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s push for a cup double. The Collyhurst‑born midfielder, signed to the academy at eight, captained the under‑18 side to a Premier League title in 2023 before breaking into the first team last season. Scouts from United, Liverpool and others watched him as a six‑year‑old and impressed senior coaches.

Guardiola has largely deployed O'Reilly at left‑back, where his pace and a powerful left foot have shone. He logged 51 appearances across all competitions this campaign, contributing nine goals and earning a senior England call‑up, adding three caps for both club and country. His idols include Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero, while childhood heroes were Messi, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.

Last season’s FA Cup final ended in a shock defeat to Crystal Palace, leaving City trophy‑less despite O'Reilly’s rapid rise. Coach Riley praised the teenager’s humility and work ethic, noting the collaborative effort required to shepherd youngsters from grassroots clubs like Moston Tigers to the Etihad. O'Reilly now aims to add that elusive silverware to his résumé in upcoming domestic competitions.
