Motherwell boss unsurprised by Scotland squad snub

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou has revealed he's not surprised none of his players were selected for Scotland's upcoming pre-World Cup friendlies. Defenders Paul McGinn and Stephen O'Donnell have previously won caps under Steve Clarke, while Stephen Welsh and Elliot Watt featured for Scotland's under-21 squad earlier in their careers.

Askou acknowledged the disappointment but said it wasn't a major topic at the club. "They've probably been discussing it inside the dressing room," he said, adding that while some players might have hoped for selection given their strong season, it hasn't been a focus in training or meetings.

The Danish manager emphasized his confidence in his squad's abilities, stating he's seen enough to trust they can perform against top opposition. "Whether they can play games and perform at a high level in general, yes, I have seen that," Askou said, noting he's witnessed them handle quality opponents throughout the campaign.
