Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has received positive news about his knee injury, with manager Oliver Glasner confirming it's 'not as bad as feared' and won't require surgery. The 28-year-old France international was set to join AC Milan for £30m on deadline day, but the transfer collapsed after medical examinations revealed the knee issues.

Mateta has been playing through the injury during the first half of the season, raising concerns about his availability. However, multiple specialists have now downplayed its severity, boosting his chances of featuring for France at the upcoming World Cup in June. Glasner couldn't specify when Mateta will return to training but emphasized the striker's commitment to Palace.

The news comes as a relief to Palace, who invested £48m in club-record signing Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves on deadline day. Mateta has scored eight Premier League goals this season and 56 in 186 appearances for the Eagles, who currently sit 13th in the table and host Burnley on Wednesday.
