Referee Paul Tierney initially missed the offense but was instructed by the video assistant referee to review the incident on the pitchside monitor. After the VAR review, Tierney announced to the stadium: "After review, Manchester United 6 is guilty of pulling his hair - violent conduct. Final decision is red card." The Premier League Match Centre later confirmed the red card on social media.

Martinez, making his first Premier League start since February 10 following a calf injury, will now serve a three-match suspension.
