Jurgen Klopp has been appointed Germany head coach on a four-year deal until 2030, tasked with rebuilding the national team after Julian Nagelsmann's resignation following a World Cup penalty shootout defeat by Paraguay. The 59-year-old, a Champions League and Premier League winner with Liverpool and two-time Bundesliga champion with Borussia Dortmund, will lead Germany through Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.

DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said Klopp "embodies passion, credibility, and the ability to inspire people," and a Kicker poll showed 80% of readers backed the appointment. Klopp will work with former Liverpool assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, aiming to restore the winning mentality and fan connection that have been missing.

However, criticism persists over Klopp's 2024 move to Red Bull as head of global soccer, seen by many as a betrayal of German football's 50+1 rule. Fan group Unsere Kurve warned against "kowtowing to capital," while Bastian Schweinsteiger questioned the DFB's rushed process and whether Klopp can address deeper structural issues.

Klopp acknowledges German football needs "root-and-branch reform" beyond the dugout. His first match is against the Netherlands in September, with the real test coming at Euro 2028, where Germany could play at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium near his former Liverpool home.
