Kilmarnock needed a stoppage-time Joe Hugill goal to defeat League 2 hosts Elgin City 1-0 in the Premier Sports Cup group stage after Jamie Brandon was sent off on 37 minutes. Fellow Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone dispatched Greenock Morton 3-0 at McDiarmid Park, while holders St Mirren beat Cove Rangers 4-0 at Balmoral Stadium.

League 1 newcomers East Kilbride came from behind to beat Dumbarton 5-3 in a thrilling contest at K-Park, with Cameron Elliott scoring a hat-trick. There were also wins for Airdrieonians, Ayr United, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Montrose, Queen of the South, Ross County and Stenhousemuir across the eight groups.

In Group A, Queen of the South eased aside Brora Rangers 3-0 with Nicky Clark and Liam Smith scoring. Group B saw Montrose beat Stirling Albion 2-0. Group C featured St Mirren's comfortable win with first goals for Jalmaro Calvin and Luke Douglas. Group D had Ross County beat Clyde 3-1 with Brian Graham scoring twice.

Other notable results included Stenhousemuir's 2-1 win over Brechin City, Partick Thistle taking a bonus point on penalties against Livingston, Inverness beating Linlithgow Rose 2-0, and Hamilton Academical winning a shootout against Raith Rovers after a 1-1 draw.
