Gianluigi Donnarumma could not stop Bournemouth's opener but made superb saves on Justin Kluivert's low effort and Daniel Jebbison's flicked header. Rico Lewis inverted into midfield, got forward and had an early effort saved but lacked quality before being taken off. Abdukodir Khusanov missed a challenge on Rayan leading to the first goal and could not recover.

New captain Ruben Dias was culpable for the opener, failing to head a long ball over the top. Josko Gvardiol was invisible for Bournemouth's goal before popping up to score a cool injury time winner. Marc Guehi played in an unfamiliar holding midfield role but managed to score a late equaliser.

With Ayyoub Bouaddi incoming, this experiment might only last one game. Elliot Anderson showed glimpses of what he will bring, covering plenty of ground and often snuffing out the danger. Antoine Semenyo looked bright in pre-season but unable to exert his influence.

Nico O'Reilly in the number 10 role created few opportunities and was taken off on the hour mark. Phil Foden was bright early, seeing plenty of the ball and playing a delightful flick for Lewis' chance but faded away. Erling Haaland missed a sitter from a couple of yards out, blazed over and scuffed another wide, raising questions about his superpowers after chopping off his blonde locks.

Substitutes Matheus Nunes and Rayan Cherki changed the game, with Cherki providing two assists and aiming to start on Friday at Crystal Palace. Jack Grealish was subbed late with no impact.
