Napoli midfielder Billy Gilmour admits struggling to process his World Cup dream being taken away through injury. The young player described it as "a tough one to get my head around" after coming so close to representing Scotland at the tournament.

Scotland have qualified for their first World Cup finals since 1998, making Gilmour's absence particularly painful. Head coach Steve Clarke and the squad departed Glasgow for the United States on Sunday, with Bolivia their final warm-up opponent in New Jersey this Saturday.

The team begins Group C play against Haiti on June 14 before facing Morocco and Brazil. Gilmour thanked supporters for their messages, promising to return "doing what I love again soon" as the nation prepares for its first World Cup appearance in 24 years.
