Alfie Whiteman, the 27‑year‑old ex‑goalkeeper who collected a Europa League medal on the bench in Bilbao, has retired and opened his first solo show. The exhibition, titled ‘A Loan’, runs at the OOF Gallery inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and features self‑portraits taken during a Swedish loan spell, including a nude on a jetty and a tumble‑dryer scene.

Whiteman’s decision came after a year of trial offers from Championship and League One sides, which he turned down to focus on visual storytelling. He had already been building a creative résumé—running a radio show, reviewing over 200 films on Letterboxd, and assisting on set—before his contract lapsed. Signing with production company Somesuch, he now splits his time between a Shoreditch studio and film projects in Ukraine.

The exhibition offers a rare glimpse into a footballer’s life beyond the pitch, contrasting his North London upbringing with solitary moments in a Swedish cabin by Lake Mockeln. By stepping away from the professional game, Whiteman demonstrates that a player’s identity can evolve far beyond the usual boy‑hood dream, leaving fans with a tangible record of his artistic journey.
