FIFA to Seek Investors for New Commercial Subsidiary

FIFA plans to create a commercial subsidiary, FFE, to manage its main events, including World Cups, and allow external investors to buy minority, non‑controlling stakes. The federation said the move would give member associations a chance to take meaningful ownership of football’s commercial potential while preserving FIFA’s spirit and governance.

UEFA has threatened a boycott, accusing FIFA of enriching itself and its allies. Infantino previously wrote to members that they could receive $40m if they supported his controversial proposal. He set a deadline of 19 September for federations to accept the plans in order to access an initial $20m. If approved, Thrive Eternal, an American venture firm founded by Joshua Kushner, is expected to lead the investor group for FFE.

The proposal has sparked debate over whether the investment would benefit clubs and fans or primarily serve a few elite stakeholders. FIFA insists the structure will democratize football’s commercial opportunities and strengthen the sport’s global reach.

The federation will continue its consultation process amid UEFA’s boycott threat, with the outcome likely to shape future World Cup commercial strategies.
