Coventry City have agreed a deal worth about £17m for Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi. The Sky Blues are expected to complete the deal before their Premier League return against Arsenal on Friday. Awoniyi became Forest's then record signing when he joined from Union Berlin in 2022 for £17.2m.

The 29-year-old scored 23 goals in 103 games for Forest but has been behind Chris Wood and Igor Jesus in the pecking order and was left out of last season's Europa League squad. In May 2025 he was placed in an induced coma, rupturing his intestine when he collided with a post during a game against Leicester.

As part of their homecoming campaign, Coventry are securing other signings including midfielder Gus Hamer from Sheffield United and goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, winger Loum Tchaouna from Burnley, and defender Aurele Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt. Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi also joined from Nordsjaelland.
