Chelsea has officially confirmed the signing of Sporting winger Geovany Quenda for a reported £40 million. The 19-year-old Portuguese international has committed to an eight-year contract with the London club. Quenda's arrival marks the second acquisition under new manager Xabi Alonso, following the earlier £42 million signing of Marco Palestra.

Quenda, who can operate as a winger, attacking midfielder, or wing-back, had agreed to the move in March 2025 during Enzo Maresca's tenure. He is expected to integrate directly into the first-team squad. Quenda spent the week training at Chelsea's Cobham facility ahead of Alonso's first session. He joins Chelsea after making 86 appearances for Sporting, including 16 in the Champions League.

The transfer is part of a broader squad reshuffling for Chelsea. The club has also been linked with moves for Rayo Vallecano's Pep Chavarria and Crystal Palace's Maxence Lacroix, and explored a move for Granit Xhaka. Valentin Barco is also reportedly set to join from Strasbourg. Meanwhile, Chelsea has seen Marc Cucurella depart for Real Madrid, Tyrique George move to Everton, and Andrey Santos is nearing a £50 million transfer to Manchester United.
