Celtic and Rangers have been ordered to play their next home Scottish Cup matches behind closed doors following fan disorder at last season's derby.

The sanctions stem from the March incident after Celtic's penalty shootout victory, when supporters threw missiles, injured police officers, and led to multiple arrests. Both clubs were charged under the Scottish FA's disciplinary rule 37, which covers unacceptable conduct at matches.

An independent review, led by Mark Blackbourne, concluded the event came within a "very small margin" of becoming a violent mass confrontation. The report criticized both clubs and the Scottish FA for not taking a tougher stance on crowd behavior.

Previously, fines and reduced ticket allocations were common penalties for such issues, but this marks a significant escalation. The SFA hopes this decisive action sends a clear message that unruly conduct will no longer be tolerated, as they aim to prevent future incidents and protect the integrity of the game.
