Celtic will meet Benfica, Marseille, Celta Vigo, Besiktas, Omonia, Union SG and Torreense in the Europa League league phase after dropping from the Champions League play-off against LASK. Hearts, who reached the Conference League via a penalty shoot-out win over Rapid Vienna, will face Trabzonspor — now featuring Mo Salah — Monaco, Borac, Nordsjaelland, Pafos and Thun. Celtic manager Martin O'Neill called the fixtures "something to look for" and noted the competition remains very strong. Hearts head coach Wouter Vrancken said his side will "put everything in it." Celtic last played Benfica in 2012 Champions League group games, drawing at home and losing away.

They have never previously faced Besiktas, Marseille, Omonia, Torreense or Union SG, who are part-owned by Brighton chairman and Hearts investor Tony Bloom. Salah, 34, has two goals in three games for Trabzonspor since joining this summer after 257 goals in 442 appearances for Liverpool. In the Europa League, 36 teams play eight matches each; the top eight advance directly to the round of 16.

The Conference League uses a six-match league phase with identical knockout qualification. Finals are scheduled for 26 May and 2 June respectively.
