Borussia Dortmund defender Niklas Sule has announced his retirement at 30, following a knee injury scare. The Germany international, who'd suffered a potential cruciate ligament tear last month in a Bundesliga loss to Hoffenheim, felt his career was over despite the MRI confirming no such tear. After being set to become a free agent on June 30, Sule retired after the season's final match.

He's made 49 appearances for Germany, winning the Confederations Cup in 2017 and playing in two World Cups. Sule won five Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich and the 2020 Champions League before joining Dortmund in 2022.
