Bellamy backs Koumas as Wales striker

Wales head coach Craig Bellamy sees Lewis Koumas as a future centre-forward for the national team. Koumas spent the second half of the 2025-26 season on loan at Hull City, helping them win promotion to the Premier League. While he has previously played on the left flank during loans at Birmingham City and Stoke City, Bellamy believes his international future lies up front due to Wales' abundance of wide options but shortage of genuine strikers.

Bellamy experimented with Koumas as a centre-forward in the friendly against Northern Ireland in March. The decision comes after Wales missed out on World Cup qualification following a home play-off semi-final defeat to Bosnia-Herzegovina. Wales will finish their season with a friendly in Romania on Saturday, while Koumas continues to develop his position under Bellamy's guidance.

Bellamy also commented on Ghana's World Cup prospects, calling them a dangerous team in transition due to their speed. The Black Stars face a challenging group with England, Croatia and Panama. Bellamy suggested Ghana's tournament could hinge on their opening match against Panama, noting that securing one win might be enough to advance to the knockout stage.
