Mikel Arteta believes new signing Bruno Guimaraes will help Arsenal reach the 'next level', describing the midfielder as bringing energy, hunger and desire to the club. The £75m deal from Newcastle United was announced on Saturday, with the 28-year-old introduced to fans at Emirates Stadium before the Borussia Dortmund match. Guimaraes was not in the squad for Arsenal's 3-2 loss to Dortmund but is expected to feature against Como on Wednesday.

Arteta highlighted Guimaraes' versatility, ability to win the ball back quickly and his goal threat. 'We want to go to the next level and need players with such personality, desire and character,' Arteta said.

The signing adds to Arsenal's midfield options alongside Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Martin Zubimendi and others. Arteta confirmed the club remains active in the transfer market despite missing out on Vinicius Jr, who signed a new six-year deal with Real Madrid.

Arsenal have also completed the signings of Christos Tzolis and goalkeeper Illan Meslier. Arteta provided fitness updates on Jurrien Timber, who is still weeks away from returning, and William Saliba, recovering from a back injury.
