Algeria has named Luca Zidane in their World Cup 2026 squad, marking the first World Cup call-up for the son of football legend Zinedine Zidane. The 28-year-old goalkeeper will join Riyad Mahrez in the squad, with the former Manchester City and Leicester forward continuing his international career at 35 while playing for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.

Zidane, Algeria's first-choice goalkeeper at the recent Africa Cup of Nations, broke his jaw and chin in April playing for Spanish club Granada. The 28-year-old previously represented France up to under-20 level before opting for Algeria, where his grandparents were born. His father famously led France to World Cup glory in 1998 and 2006.

Coach Vladimir Petkovic has recalled Nabil Bentaleb after seven months out of the squad, while adding Houssem Aouar and Amine Gouiri who missed the Africa Cup of Nations due to injury. Bentaleb, 31, has spent three seasons at Lille and played at Algeria's last World Cup in 2014. Algeria faces a challenging Group J with holders Argentina, Austria, and Jordan.
