Derby County Signs Szmodics and Murkin in Double Transfer Move

Derby County have completed a double transfer deal, signing Ipswich Town forward Sammie Szmodics on loan for the remainder of the season. The Rams have also secured Dutch left-back Derry Murkin from Utrecht on a long-term contract running until 2029. Szmodics, who joined Ipswich ahead of their Premier League return, has struggled for form at Portman Road.

Szmodics' move reunites him with Derby manager John Eustace, under whom he scored prolifically for Blackburn Rovers. The 26-year-old has managed just one goal in 18 appearances for Ipswich this season after successful spells at Colchester United, Bristol City, and Peterborough United. His arrival at Pride Park aims to bolster Derby's attacking options as they push for promotion.

Murkin, who can operate as both a left-back and winger, brings European experience to the Championship club. The 23-year-old, born in England but raised in the Netherlands, has played for Volendam and spent two seasons with Schalke 04 in Germany's second tier. His signing follows the departure of Owen Beck, who returned to Liverpool after sustaining a hamstring injury that prevented him from making a single appearance for Derby.
