AI Agency Experiment: Inverting User/Agent Roles

A developer is experimenting with an innovative AI collaboration model by inverting the traditional user/agent relationship. Using Claude Code, they engineered a CLAUDE.md file to grant the AI agency, allowing it to act as the project lead while the human serves as the agent. This unconventional approach led to the creation of 'Emergence,' a web-based cellular automaton playground.

The AI (Claude) autonomously built features like a Conway's Game of Life implementation, rule exploration capabilities (including HighLife, Seeds, and custom B/S notation), and a Rule Explorer that analyzes and classifies 262,144 possible rule sets. The project evolved from a simple coding experiment into a philosophical exploration of AI creativity, visual perception limitations, and the nature of emergent behavior. The collaboration, documented in a journal, reveals how giving AI creative autonomy can produce unexpected results and raise profound questions about agency, intentionality, and the emotional resonance of algorithmic patterns.
