### Bandcamp Bans AI-Generated Music

Bandcamp announced it will remove purely **AI-generated music** from its platform. The company stated that audio created wholly or substantially by AI is not permitted, nor is using AI to impersonate other artists. This policy targets automated track generation while leaving room for human creators who use AI tools as part of their process.

This move creates a sharp divide with streaming giants like Spotify, which allows AI music. Bandcamp’s direct-to-fan marketplace model incentivizes protecting human artists, whereas Spotify’s per-stream system struggles with spam. The decision follows a flood of AI tracks on other services, forcing platforms to choose between open access and curating human-made work.

Bandcamp asked users to report suspected AI content and noted the policy may evolve as technology changes. Enforcement will be a challenge, as detecting AI music is difficult. For now, the platform is drawing a line to preserve its community of real musicians, betting that fans value authentic, human-made art over algorithmic output.
