George Russell watched his power unit expire on lap 30 while leading the Canadian Grand Prix, handing the victory to Kimi Antonelli. The 19-year-old Italian's fourth consecutive win expanded his championship lead to 43 points over Russell.

Russell admitted he was "lost for words" after dominating the weekend with poles in the sprint and qualifying plus a sprint victory. He told Sky: "Everything just turned off all of a sudden." He praised the on-track fight with Antonelli, saying it reminded him of go-karting days. "I'd have loved to have continued it for 30 more laps."

Lewis Hamilton claimed second for Ferrari in the closing laps, while Max Verstappen held off a late charge from Red Bull. McLaren scored no points in a disastrous afternoon. Russell acknowledged he gave everything available before the failure, calling himself "pretty damn frustrated" but satisfied with his effort.
