Perez Penalty Costs Cadillac First F1 Points

Cadillac driver Sergio Perez lost his maiden Formula 1 points when stewards imposed a 10-second penalty after the Monaco Grand Prix. The Mexican finished 10th on track but dropped to last after being found out of position at the restart following a red flag. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso now inherits 10th place, giving the team its first point of the season.

Perez's penalty came after track surface deterioration at Antony Noghes corner caused crashes for Lance Stroll and Charles Leclerc. Video evidence showed the Cadillac driver's front right wheel outside the starting box. The Mexican had already incurred a drive-through penalty early in the race for lining up in the wrong grid spot.

The costly sanction moves Aston Martin ahead of Cadillac in the constructors' championship. Perez received a third sanction of the day - a reprimand for failing to follow race director's instructions. Despite the setback, the Mexican driver expressed confidence, noting the team showed promise by reaching the points in just their sixth race.
