Motorsport UK and the British Racing Drivers' Club are combining their development initiatives to create a unified pathway for young British racers. The BRDC Driver Academy powered by Motorsport UK launches in 2027, merging existing Rising Stars and Superstars programmes with Motorsport UK's academy structure.

Former sportscar driver Andy Meyrick will lead the new academy, focusing on racing skills, fitness and education. The merger addresses years of discussion about streamlining British driver development, recognizing that fragmented programmes could no longer compete with Formula 1 teams' massive resources.

BRDC vice president Derek Warwick acknowledged the financial reality: F1 teams now dominate young driver recruitment with substantial backing. The unified approach brings together more resources and expertise to maintain Britain's position as the sport's most successful nation.

With 21 F1 world titles to its credit, British motorsport has produced current champions like Lando Norris and Oliver Rowland. George Russell, the 2014 Autosport BRDC Young Driver Award winner, credited the programme for his seven Grand Prix victories and progression to Mercedes.
