Leclerc Wins British GP as Antonelli Crashes Out

Charles Leclerc claimed his first victory of the 2026 season at Silverstone, leading a Ferrari 1-3 finish ahead of Lewis Hamilton while Mercedes' championship leader Kimi Antonelli suffered a catastrophic left wheel shield failure. Antonelli had built a tyre-life advantage by staying out until lap 35 but reported "something is broken" on lap 41, forcing two additional pitstops and dropping him to 16th. The Italian's misfortune sliced his drivers' championship lead over team-mate George Russell to just 25 points.

Russell inherited second after Max Verstappen spun off at Stowe with six laps remaining while running third. The Red Bull driver had battled handling, gearbox and deployment issues all afternoon before beaching himself in the gravel. A late safety car bunched the field, but Russell's decision to stay out on worn mediums while rivals pitted for softs paid off when race control kept the safety car out until the finish.

Hamilton recovered from a five-second false-start penalty — served during his lone stop — to secure third, though he still faces stewards for a separate yellow flag infringement. Lando Norris took fourth for McLaren, while Isack Hadjar scored a career-best fifth for Red Bull. Racing Bulls impressed with Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad sixth and seventh, and Gabriel Bortoleto delivered Audi's first points since Melbourne with eighth.
