### Blackhawks Sign Bedard to $75M Extension

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed franchise cornerstone **Connor Bedard** to a five-year, **$75 million** contract extension with a **$15 million** average annual value, making him the third-highest paid NHL player for 2026-27 behind **Kirill Kaprizov** ($17M) and Leo Carlsson ($18M). GM **Kyle Davidson** praised Bedard's elite offensive upside and work ethic.

The 2023 No. 1 overall pick posted a career-high 75 points in 69 games last season, totaling 75 goals and 128 assists in 219 NHL games. However, durability concerns persist — Bedard has played fewer than 70 games in two of three seasons and will miss the first month of 2026-27 after shoulder surgery. Defensively, Chicago surrendered 3.60 xGA/60 with Bedard on ice, second-worst on the team.

Bedard must improve his faceoff percentage (47.1% last season) and two-way play to justify his salary. The Blackhawks have $14.1M in cap space and acquired Bowen Byram to bolster defense, but need a quality linemate for Bedard. Their young core includes seven recent top-50 picks like Frank Nazar and Artyom Levshunov, though none have established themselves as stars yet.
